Before we get started on talking about all things garden, we need to cover a few basic facts. In order to prepare your soil or yard for gardening, you must first know what zone you live in. If you’re in South Florida, like me, then you live in zone 10b. That’s important, so make sure to remember it! The reason why it’s good to know is that it allows you to plan your calendar ahead of time and according to your region. It took me a long time to realize why Knausberry is only open from October to April… strawberries grow in the cooler months in South Florida. So every season before I start planting on my raised bed, I look through one of my favorite websites: Gardenate, and I plan for the following month. (The Lettuce Grow is a little different, we’ll talk about that later). The most important thing to remember is that you can plant seeds whenever you want but they’ll yield their fruit in their season. |
